Nissan Repair: 2000 Nissan Xterra Brake Lights, brake light switch, nissan xterra

Question
My brake lights are not working on either side of my 2000 Xterra.  I've checked the bulbs and the fuses and both are fine.  I keep reading about a brake light switch near the brake pedal that could be the solution but I can not find it. I've spent a few hours atleast searching for this switch but have had no success.  Any advice you have or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Mat,

At the top of the brake pedal arm there is a switch.  This is the brake light switch.  Most of the time they get out of adjustment.  So, get on your back and look up, under the dash, above the brake pedal arm and you should see the stop.  The stop is actually the switch.  When the brake is not applied this is what the brake pedal arm rests against.  The pivot point is much higher in the dash.  So, follow the pivot point down and you should see the switch.
