Nissan Repair: tail light keeps popping fuses, turn signal switch, nissan terrano

Question
i have a 1999 nissan terrano 11 the dash display does not come on when you turn lights on, recently the tail lights went off on checking fuses it had blown but when i try to replace it just blows again can you please help..

Answer
Hi Elisabeth -

If the fuse pops right away then you have a direct short somewhere. The trick is finding the shorted circuit.

Most popular is the tail light sockets, or the turn signal switch, but it could be many things. To check this you will need a lot of fuses. Try removing the tail light bulbs and putting a fuse in. If the fuse blows again, then check the socket itself for fuse wires or hot spots. If all checks out,do the same for the front parking lights. If still no dice, disconnect the turn signal switch and then replace the fuse again. If it does not blow, then you have at least narrowed it down.

Obviously it is almost impossible to tell you what exactly is causng the fuse to blow without the car being in front of me, so all I can ask you to do is narrow it down using the process of elimination.

Hope this helps -

try this for each circuit related to the instrument panel lighting.
