Nissan Repair: 97 Altima wont start when headlights are on, nissan altima, electrical load

Question
My 1997 Nissan Altima won't start when the headlights are on. It won't turn over or make any noise at all. It only happens when I turn on the headlights before I try and start the car. Then I have to turn the headlights off for a few seconds and try to start the car again. Is this normal for that model? And if it's not, what might be the problem?

Answer
Taryn,

Sounds like you have a weak battery or corroded terminals at the battery.  Take the car to Autozone or Checker and get a free electrical load inspection.  They will check the performance of the battery and alternator and let you know what is going on.  Email me back if you need more or an opinion on what they say...
