Nissan Repair: 94 nissan pathfinder 6 cyl, air control valve, nissan pathfinder

Question
I am borrowing a friend's 94 Nissan pathfinder 6 cyl, have been driving it for about 3 weeks.  Today, it cut off on me twice, each time the rpm's went down to zero.  My friend said it did it to her, she took it in to a garage, they supposedly fixed it.  What do you think could be causing it?  I was driving down the road, when it cut off the first time, the second I was pulling into a parking space.  Thanks!

Answer
Joetta,

The idle air control valve is probaly sticking and the throttle body needs to be cleaned.  Clean the throttle body with carburettor cleaner and then replace the idle air control valve.  After that, change the plugs if they have not been changed recently.  With this engine dust and dirt accumulate in the recesses where the plugs go so blow it out with compressed air before plug removal and if you have WD40 use it before you remove the plugs and be sure the engine is cool...
