Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan XE Pickup jerking after warms up., fuel filters, exact same thing

Question
After driving several miles, the vehicle begins to act as though it is starving for gas, it looses power the jerks and goes again.  There is no particular speed that it does this.  Say id you were traveling 60 mph and the traffic in front began to slow, so you come off the accelerator for just a short time, then give it gas again to maintain your speed, it will loose power then all of a sudden accelerate.

We were told it was in the distributor.  We replaced the complete distributor... the whole thing.  The pickup is doing the exact same thing.  The check engine light has been on for the past 2 years... never an actual issue found as to why it is on.  The computer diagnostic was done prior to changing the distributor.

Our van had died 3 days prior to the pickup.  It had a fuel pump issue.  We changed the fuel filters on both vehicles at the same time (after the pickup started acting up).

The pickup is quite frustrating... and we need it fixed.  We've already put 300.00 in parts into it... to have it do the exact same thing and no improvement.

Answer
Hi Kristie

Kristie, I am assuming that all the basic things were done, such as replacing spark plugs, checking the ignition cables and connections, and fuel pump volume and pressure (even if the fuel pump is new, it should be checked).

Just checking because a lot of times the simple things are the ones giving the trouble.

Barring that, if the distributor and the parts within are new (I am especially interested in the ignition module).

Can you tell me what codes were displayed when it was put on the diagnostic?

Please get back to me -
thank you and aloha
