Nissan Repair: Nissan Titan Fuel Pump or Alternator??, nissan titan, electrical inspection

Question
QUESTION: I've had an ongoing problem with my truck. twice when I was driving it just turned off. I had it towed to the dealer. I was guessing it was the fuel pump. But i was told it needs a new alternator. I have it now at home and I have to jump start it. Everyone is insisting its the fuel pump. Any insights on the similarities

ANSWER: Tmarie,

If the alternator was replaced due to low voltage then I would have the charging system checked to verify the battery is good.  Next, if the truck dies then have the fuel pressure verified to make sure the engine is getting fuel.

QUESTION: I had an after market Optima battery when I took it to the dealer they said the battery was no good they then replaced it with a Nissan Battery. I left the dealer drove about 3 miles and the truck turned off again. Had towed back to the dealer after two days they informed me about the alternator

Answer
Tmarie,

If the turck has to be jumped that means that the battery is not charging.  Either the replacement alternator is defective, the new battery is defective (not likely) or the wire from the alternator to the battery or fuse is blown or wired wrong.  I would drive over to Autozone or Checker and get them to do a free electrical inspection and then you will know for sure.  If the car has to be jumped and will start I would not think it would be the fuel pump.
