Nissan Repair: nissan bluebird 1994, nissan bluebird, accelerator cables

Question
Hi I own a 1994 nissan bluebird it broke down last week which we thought was a fuel problem but I noticed that under the distributor there is oil sitting could this be the cause of it not starting there is plenty of spark as that has been checked it done the samething to me a couple of weeks ago but when I manually pulled the accelerator cables a couple of times then tried to start again it went. But this has not worked this time it just keeps winding but wont start I originally thought it must have been a fuel issue as when "I was driving and would accelerate it would occasionally choke and sometimes die other times just dies half way between the 1 and 0 then it slowly corrected its self coming back up to idle just under 1 do you have any suggestions.

Answer
Michelle,

I would remove and disassemble the distributor and check for oil on the optical pickup and shutter wheel.  Nissan cars use a distributor that uses optics to time the engine and if there is oil in the works it will cause the car to die and cut out.
