Nissan Repair: shift problem, nissan pickup, shift problem

Question
QUESTION: 1997 nissan pickup-will not go in gear when cold in morning- after sitting  in warm temp works well -has done this the last two days-temperature in the 40 's range at night and 70's during the day-what gives?

ANSWER: Frank,

Change the fluid and filter.  If the fluid is old is will gum up the valvebody and that will cause it to be slow to flow and not shift until it warms.

QUESTION: sorry i didn't mention that this truck is a five speed    could it be a bad sticking throw-out bearing?

ANSWER: Frank,

If the clutch is not worn out it should be the slave or master cylinder for the clutch.  Basically, the clutch cannot release if the slave or master cylinder bleed off, as in internal leak, and the transmission will not want to go into gear.

QUESTION: can you make that answer a little clearer?qnupy

Answer
Frank,

The clutch is hydraulic and the seals leak internally so pressure does not build when you press the pedal.  This causes the clutch not to release all the way and makes it difficult to get the transmission into gear.  You will most probably have to replace the slave and master cylinder for the clutch and bleed them.  That is the usual repair for the problem you describe.
