Nissan Repair: Nissan 1998 200sx electrical problem, dashboard lights, rockauto

My electrical system is messed up.  Here is what is happening...My tail lights and dashboard lights are not working properly.  They only come on when when I press on the brakes.  Also my radio lights never come on, but the radio does work.  Is this an easily correctable problem, if so how?  Any thoughts on what this would cost if I had to pay someone?  Thank you for your time.

Replace the headlight switch since that is the common link to your problem.  Nissan uses contact switches in the master switch and that will cause the problems you describe.  The steering wheel does not not have to come off.  And, it only requires a phillips screwdriver.  Remove the column cover and then replace the switch.  courtesynissan.com or rockauto.com have the best price on the switch.
