Nissan Repair: 1989 Nissan Maxima Electrical Dash, step down transformer, nissan maxima

Question
The dash is all electrical from the odometer to the speedometer... etc.  All of this has gone out.  Is there a non-expensive way to fix this?  Do you know what might be the cause of the problem?

Answer
Latoka,

The problem is either the electrical connector has become corroded and needs to be cleaned.  Remove the cluster and clean the contacts with a number 2 pencil eraser on both the harness and the cluster and then blow off the dust.  Brush lightly only to shine up the contacts.  Then, reinstall and see if it corrects the problem.  If not, there is a step down transformer on the back of the cluster that has blown and needs to be replaced.  It is cheaper to purchase a used cluster than to get yours repaired.  It costs about $300 bucks to get one repaired.
