Nissan Repair: 2004 Nissan Altima A/C clutch staying engaged, 2004 nissan altima, nissan altima

Question
I've owned my Nissan since Nov 2003. In the last 6 months I've noticed that the A/C stays engaged after moving the mode selector from defrost.

I've been told by my local Nissan dealership that the compressor clutch engages with depressing the A/C button, by switching the mode switch to Max A/C, and by switching the mode switch to defrost. During my experience, the A/C button was not depressed and when switching from defrost to any normal mode, I noticed that the A/C clutch was still engaged and the vents blowing cold air. Shouldn't the clutch go offline whenever the mode selector is changed? The only way I can make the compressor go offline is by turning off the car. Is this normal or possibly a control panel issue?

Answer
Hi James -

Looks like you have a sticking A/C relay that is not disengaging unless main power is cut off. The relay should be located in the engine compartment in a large box on the fender. All the large circuit fuses and relays are located there.

Hope this helps -
