Nissan Repair: 1992 Nissan 300zx wont start, nissan 300zx, distributor cap

Question
Hi, I was out cruising my 92 300zx and went in the store. When I came out it would not start right away. When it did and I got out on the highway, about 2 miles up the road it started to feel like it was running out of gas and stalled out. It would not start for about a half hour. When it did I got back on the road and for a couple of seconds it did it again but went away. I got it home and changed the fuel filter. [it had lots of pressure in the line] The next day I took it out and it stalled out and it would not start back up. I had to get it towed. All fuses are good and you can hear the fuel pump hum when you turn the key. She only has 32,000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Hi David -

Looks like your ignition module is bad. This is located in the distributor. There is a lot of heat generated in the distributor, and sometimes it causes the module to fail. Remove the distributor cap and rotor, and you should see it sitting on the base next to the shaft. It is held down by a couple screws and a few wires attached to it. I believe in your model the distributor must be removed to gain access, but I may be mistaken. In any case, replace that, and you should be good to go -

Hope this helps -
