Nissan Repair: 2001 Maxima, activated charcoal filter, cabin air filter

Question
QUESTION: Does the 2001 Maxima have a cabin air filter?

If so where is it located?

Thanking you in advance.

ANSWER: Michael,

It has the place for one and if it was installed at the factory it will be there.  It is comprised of two filters that sort of notch together.  The access panel is under the dash on the passenger side.  The glovebox has to be removed to gain access.  It is an activated charcoal filter with a paper membrane that traps lint and dust.  Airconditioning performance is reduced since the blower has to fight to force the air through the system when dirty.

QUESTION: Thank you.

Is there a way to tell for sure before having to dismnantle the glove box?

Answer
Michael,

No, the glovebox needs to be removed to access the panel.  It is pretty easy to remove since it is held by just screws.  It comes out as an assembly so the door does not have to come off.  Open the glovebox and you will see the screws that need to be removed.  Plus there is one at each side under the dash.  Then, pull towards the seat and it comes out.  The panel to access the filters is underneath.
