Nissan Repair: 1995 Nissan Maxima A32 - ECTS Failure?, coolant temperature sensor, nissan maxima

Question
I had the ECTS replaced not even 12 mths ago (with not a hint of a problem again until now) and I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms again (intermittent stalling, surging/hesitation).  It took over 12mths prior to diagnose the ECTS last time as no code was thrown. During this time there were a lot of expensive guesses done including knock sensor, Throttle Body, TBS, Idle Control valve, oxygen sensor.  Could the ECTS fail again in such a short time?

Answer
Vanessa,

The electronic coolant temperature sensor could be defective or the connector has worn or was broken when it was installed a year ago.  Taht is, plastic conenctors get hot and crack.  There is a possibility that the connection needs to be renewed or the sensor itself has failed again.  Not too expensive considering the other parts you have purchased in the past.  Check out Autozone or Checker locally or courtesynissan.com on-line for a replacement part.  All you have to do is unscrew the old one and screw the new one in and then disconnect the battery to clear the code.
