Nissan Repair: 99 Nissan Sentra, beep beep, nissan sentra

Question
Hey recently when I turn the car off and have my foot on the brake (5-speed), the guage lights have been comming on as well as the beep-beep that let's you know the lights are still on.  And I just got pulled over because my brake lights are staying on when the headlights are on.  However the lights work perfectly when the headlights/parking lights are off.   Wtf.  I know this is electrical, is there an easy fix I can do so I don't get charged a grand or more for labor?

Answer
Hi Kevin -

Without a circuit tester, and of course the difficulty of not being there, I would say that it is your headlight switch that is shorting into the brake light circuit when it is on. Of course, this is just a guess. To be sure, it has to be diagnosed properly with tracing of wires, etc.

I would say, though to try and replace the headlight switch. It is not that difficult. Just remove the housing around the steering wheel and you can get to it.

Hope this helps -
