Nissan Repair: starting 97 nissan maxima, spark plug wire, nissan maxima

Question
For past couple of months, having problems starting my Maxima.  After 5-6 attempts, the car starts. Once it starts, it runs fine, until I have to start it again. I had the battery tested, and they said the battery is fine.  Any ideas would be helpful.

Answer
Hi Ray -

I do not think it is the battery. Looks like a fuel issue, but I want to ask you to do a test for me. This will help the diagnosis -

When the car is not starting, pull out a spark plug wire, attach a screwdriver into the boot, and hold the screwdriver about 1/4" away from any metal surface of the engine while someone tries to start it (do not touch any metal surface while doing this).

Let me know if there is a spark jumping between the metal surfaces while the car is cranking.

thanks
