Nissan Repair: wont start, compression test, cloud of smoke

okay, so i go to look at this 95 nissan max. i get there the guys saysneesa new clutch so i look at it and so we go to start it and wont even turn over so we go replace the battery and put it in and turn it over and it turns over but wont star its turning and turing and the gets a little kick little its almost started then keep turning over. he tryed and tryed well then a big cloud of smoke comes from rear and it smells like gas. i check to make sure there is gasd ans yes half a tank i g and take gas cap of and it makes the sound of lik its sucking air kinda when u r out of gas and u go to fuel up and it makes that sucking noise. so i go under the hood and have him try to start it again and i hear this gulping noise like its coming from the air intake line like a gulp poping noise. so now im lost. do u think its plugs and wires are shot please e-mail me back with info thanks

My first question is, did you go there to purchase the vehicle, or repair it? If it is to purchase, forget it, looks like that car has some issues.

If it is a repair, take a compression test, and get back to me. Sounds like a cylinder is blown.
