Nissan Repair: surging brakes 2005 Nissan Maxima 3.5, 2005 nissan maxima, warped rotors

Question
I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima and we noticed that the brakes began to surge during normal braking.

The brake pads are not completely worn out, but I am getting ready to replace them, and of course will resurface the rotors as well.  Is there something else I should be looking at while I replace the brakes or should turning the rotors do the job?

I have been told that warped rotors could be the problem due to excessive heat, but I should be able to find that out when we have the rotors turned, right?  I have also heard of calipers going bad and dragging on the rotor causing a similar heat issue...

Thanks for reading...

Answer
Hi Dan -

Personally, my preference would be to replace the rotors altogether, especially if it is warped. You may be able to remove all low spots by resurfacing it, however sometimes there is a lot of surface removed before it is true. this causes overheating due to the thin rotor thickness and could cause bigger issues later.

The best way to check calipers is to run the vehicle until normal operating temp, then manually spin the wheels. If they spin with minimal drag, you are good to go.

Hope this helps -
