Question
Hello, i was driving over some hills when i decide to push the botton
to turn off the over drive.  It was okay, until i noticed a smell of
something burning coming in from my a/c vents so I turned on the overdrive
again.  the smell went away.  its a 2003 nissan frontier v6.

Answer
Adrian,

There should be no connection between the overdrive being on or off and a bad smell coming from the airconditioning vents.  I would look under the hood to see if there is a oil leak or you might have run over a plastic bag or the like that would cause a smell.  Again, the overdrive is inside the transmission and it would not cuase a smell.  You could check for an overfull transmission.  Follow the directions in the owners manual for checking the transmission fluid.  Check it in park, engine at operating temperature, on a level surface, running.  Open the hood, pull the transmission dipstick and wipe it off.  Then, reinsert it and pull it out and see where the level is at.  It needs to be spot on and not too full or low as either condition can hurt the transmission.
