Nissan Repair: 1992 nissan transmission/5th gear, nissan transmission, nissan pickup

My 1992 nissan pickup xe will not go into 5th gear.  The overdrive seems to work in other gears and I don't know what the problem is.  My truck has done this before but the problem just disappeared.

Is this an automatic or stick?  If an automatic the overdrive only comes on after it reaches operating temperature.  If a manual and it will not physically shift into fifth gear the shift fork is not working.  That means that the transmission would have to be disassembled to discover the problem.  You could remove the shifter and see if the bushing is worn and that was causing the non shift.  The bushing is plastic and if worn that could cause the problem with a manual transmission.  Email me back and let me know which one you have and we'll delve into this more.
