Nissan Repair: 94 sentra electrical, power drains, carbon brushes

Question
We have a 94 Sentra that gave us problems for about a year before finally quitting. It wouldn't start unless we jiggled the key in the ignition, then it would start fine. Later, it worsened by having what I called "power drains" as we were going down the road. The radio and dash lights would go out, the speedometer would go crazy, and then everything would be okay. Now it just won't start at all, no matter how much we jiggle the key. We charged the battery, but it only lasted a day. (The battery was good.) I will appreciate any help.

Answer
Lori,

If the key cylinder is loose it needs to be replaced.  There are carbon brushes in the switch that wear out and will short causing your problem.  Replace the ignition switch.  Check at your local parts store since this should be available cheap.
