Nissan Repair: 1992 Nissan Pickup dashboard issues, dashboard issues, bloster

Question
Two problems. The first is only the right half of the dash (speedometer, battery volts) lights up when headlights are on. I assume the dash is reflective and I just need to replace a bulb on the left, but could use any pointers on how to get to the bulb.
The second problem is the gas and temp gages generally do not give a reading (needles are all the way to the left regardless of how long the vehicle has been running), but every six months or so they both peg on the extreme right for about a minute, at the same time, then go quiet again. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Answer
Steve,

I would source another cluster from a wrecking yard to correct the gauge problem.  The bulbs are accessed by removing the cluster.  To get the cluster out you will need to drop the column.  To do this you need to remove the knee bloster from under the dash and then remove the two bolts that hold the column up.  Then you remove the screws that hold the instrument cluster on and then the cluster comes out by removing four screws.  After you pull the cluster towards you you will have to reach behind and unplug the harness connectors.  Replacement is the reverse of removal.  It is a good idea to plug in the new harness before you reinstall everything to make sure the bulbs work.  With one sourced from a wrecking yard you can swap blubs until you get them all working.  Installation is reverse of removal.
