Nissan Repair: no start, space move, dash lights

Question
sometimes- no pattern when i get in my 89 maxima automatic- turn the key-
all interior and dash lights work. but nothing- no clicks-no crank- just dead
space. move consol shift lever to neutral and back to park- sevral times-
starts up. sometimes it doesn't and i have to drift the car several feet and try
again- sometimes starts up. had trans replaced (other issues), starter
replaced- new batterie- dealer can't find issue- never does it when they have
it. only happens once or twice a week but always at the worst times. any
suggestions? having neutral switch replaced today- what's next? thank you so
much- love the car-orig owner and want to keep it.   jack

Answer
Hi Jack -

have you checked your ignition switch?

Find the solenoid wire going to the starter (this is the small wire). touch the probe of a voltmeter or light tester to the terminal and have someone turn the key as if to start the car. If there is no power when doing that, then it is probably the ignition switch. If there is power, then I would re-check the starter.

Hope this helps
