Nissan Repair: Nissan primera rough idle and stalling when cold, mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensors

Question
Hi there,

I have a 1991 Nissan Primera 2L Manual transmission vehicle. All year round it rough idles (surges - falls just below 1000 rpm and rises quickly back above it) it also stalls early on in a journey after a while (not long usually about a 3/4-2 miles in summer) the stalling stops. However in winter it has a tendency when I am about 1mile into my journey I start losing engine power until the car stalls at which point it takes a couple of minutes before it starts again.

Any ideas are welcome.

Answer
Eamon,

If the car is carbureted it is most probably the power valve.  Email me back and let me know if it is carbureted or fuel injected.  If it is fuel injected then we are looking at possibly a mass airflow sensor or oxygen sensors.  Is the check engine light on?
