Nissan Repair: 1996 Maxima, car motor, extreme cases

Question
My Maxima has 203,000 miles, everything on the car works perfectly! But..about once a week while driving, the car motor just shuts down.  I pull over, all the electrical stuff works, put the car in Park, and it starts back up again, no problem. I paid for a diagnostic but the mechanic could not find anything wrong.  HELP!

Answer
Hi Jimmy -

Try replacing the ignition module in the distributor. Usually when the engine gets warmed up, if the module loses it's heat sync, it cuts out. In extreme cases, you will have to wait until the engine cools off before it will start once again.

The other thing it could be is a dirty throttle. Remove the intake boot, and clean the throttle throat. Sometimes it blocks air going through when deaccelerating. However, I doubt this one necause you say it happens only when engine is warm?

Hope this helps
