Nissan Repair: Starting a car that hasnt been driven for a while, nissan 240sx, inadvertantly

Question
Hi,
I haven't driven my Nissan 240sx for about 3 years. I used to start it until about 2 years ago but the battery went flat (inadvertantly left a light on). It's been parked in an underground parking garage - could you please let me know what I have to do (other than charging the battery) to start it up safely? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Sylvie -

WOW. 3 years is a long time. Hopefully the engine is has not seized. Your best chance to start it is to first check the oil. You may want to start by pouring a quart in first, covering as much of the engine as possible. Then you must turn the en gine by hand a few revolutions. This will get the oil going and into critical areas.

The gasoline is probably stale, so that needs to be drained and refilled with fresh fuel.

Other than that, replace the battery and hope for the best that it will start, or at least turn over.

Good luck -
