Nissan Repair: 2001 Altima Engine Bucking intermittently, check volume, service engine soon light

Question
I've got a 2001 Altima with 128,000 miles on it and the engine is bucking
intermittently.  It is worse when it is hot out (above 85 degrees or so) and
certainly worse when there is a load on the engine (i.e. the AC is on or speed
up to pass on the highway).  It's been happening for a few weeks and has
gotten worse with time.  Today the service engine soon light came on when it
was happening.  The diagnostic meter I have reports misfires on piston 3.  As
I have blown a timing belt in a previous car with very similar circumstances I
was concerned that it might be the cause.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Wayne -

Assuming that you have performed a tune up, It could be the fuel pump. Are you at liberty to have someone check volume and pressure?

Also, if you haven't replaced the timing belt yet, I would go ahead and do so, especially if your car is manual shift. Supposed to be replaced every 60,000 miles.

Hope this helps -
