Nissan Repair: overheating and electrical smell, radiator coolant, coolant water

Question
My first question is silly but I'm a girl.  My car is overheating and I need to put coolant/water but I am not sure where to put it and I can't find my manual. It's a 1994 Nissan Altima.  The second question is I have been smelling an electrical smell coming from the car occasionally. Any ideas what this might be? I've had the car for a good while, with no major problems and was getting it regularly serviced but I have lost my job (thus asking about me adding coolant/water). Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Kim -

The radiator is at the front part of the vehicle, in the middle, look for a cap with 2 points on either side. Should say "caution, do not open hot" or some similar message. When the engine is cold, open this cap and fill with radiator coolant, a 50/50 mixture with water is desired.

The electrical smell could very well be coming with the overheating, so fill the radiator first, and then get back to me.

If it continues to overheat, let me know, and I will instruct you on the next step.

Hope you find a job - if you were here in Hawaii, I would offer you one. Could use some help in my business.

Hope this helps -
