Nissan Repair: 89 d21 3.oi, nissan d21, fuel gauge

Question
QUESTION: I have an 89 Nissan d21 hard body with a 3.0i v6. The truck has been sitting for a few years so i did all of the standard things to get it running fuel pump, plugs&wires, coil.  But when i turn the key and the fuel pump primes the system the injectors go full open flooding the throttle body. To the point of hydro-lock. I changed the ecm or computer with another with the same result.  I could probably spend allot of money just willy nilly swapping out parts.  Could someone help me with a way to test the parts I have now. Or if someone has seen this before I would greatly appreciate some guidance.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Bbucky,

If the injectors are flooding the engine you have a couple of things to look at.  First, are the injectors good?  Check with a fuel gauge and see if the pressure holds?  If not change the injectors.  If these are good then look at the cam position sensor.  That is what sends the signal to the computer to fire the plugs.  Check these and email me back.

QUESTION: Von With the wiring harness to the injectors open, the fuel pressure holds.  As soon as I plug in the harness all of the fuel dumps into the t.b. before engaging the starter. With the computer unplugged I measured the voltage to the injectors.  with the black of an vometer to the battery The white-red wires to the computer have 12 volts. The green is open and the Black also has 12 volts.

Answer
Bbucky,

I would check the reference signal from the cam position sensor since that is probably what is causing the injectors to hold open.  Remember, the car grounds the injectors to fire them as they have power.  The ECM is what grounds the injectors.  So, either the reference signal is messed up or the computer is shorted.
