Nissan Repair: Piston rod, piston rods, piston rod

Question
I have an 86.5 Z24 Nissan Pickup. Its a 5-speed manual. Recently it ran out of oil an caused one of the piston rods to break. Now the question is when replacing  that rod, does it have to be out of the same vehicle or is there another type of vehicle that it is interchangeable with? like maybe another small truck or like a small car or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated, im running out of time. need my truck fixed asap. thanks!

Answer
Regina,

If you broke a piston rod you should be looking at a crank kit as the crank had to be scored from the lack of oil.  So, check at the local machine shops and find out the cost of a crank kit and if the pistons are damaged and the block has to be bored.  You might save money by the purchase of a low mile used engine.
