Nissan Repair: nissan 100nx, nissan 100nx, hammer place

Question
how do you change the c.v joints on a nissan 100nx

Answer
Hi KT -

CV boots are replaced by removing the axle - In this order
remove center axle nut
remove wheel
remove outer tie rod
remove strut rod bolts (2)
Remove brake calipers

Pull axle out of wheel hub and place it out of the way. Pry the axle out from the transmission carefully. Catch excess oil in a pan otherwise you will have to deal with the oil spot when you put the axle back.

Once out, cut away the boot, and carefully separate the axle from the hub assembly using a large hammer. Place the new boot and clamp on the axle side, follow the instructions carefully. Snap the hub back on, and fill the bearings with grease. Slide the boot back on the joint and tighten clamps. Installation is reverse of removal.

I would recommend replacing the entire axle. One can get a rebuilt axle for not too much more than it costs time and labor for replacing just the boot. New axle includes new hubs and boots already installed, and save the trouble of labor. Also, once the boot has been broken, the joint is already contaminated, so the latter is definitely a better option.

Hope this helps -
