Nissan Repair: Nissan Quest Transmission problem, mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor

Question
I have a '96 Quest. While driving down the highway, I felt a hard jerk and the vehicle stalled.  It would not start again. It had stalled twice before that but I could start it again after waiting for awhile.  We towed it to a friend's place and replaced the fuel pump.  After this it ran fine.  But as if out of the blue, from now on it has a shifting problem. It goes into drive fine but it has a delayed shift into 2nd gear.  The engine revs up before it goes into 2nd gear.  I'm not sure how many gears it goes through but it seems as if it does not go into the high gear because at 50 mi/hr the rpms are at 4000 - 5000. It revs real high. It seems like it needs to shift to a higher gear but it does not.  I changed the transmission oil and filter and the mass air flow sensor and the throttle position sensor.  It goes into reverse fine.

Thank you for your time that you spend on all these questions.

Answer
Stephanus,

If you towed it on the ground, in neutral, it probably cooked the transmission.  All automatics since something like 1966 do not have a rear pump and if towed with the drive wheels on the ground will damage the transmission.  Take the van in to your local transmission shop for a diagnosis.
