Nissan Repair: 2004 Nissan Exterra V6 rear spark plug R & R, 2004 nissan exterra, flex head

Question
Hi: doing a tune up on sons wife V6 Exterra non Turbo. Spent hours trying to get a spark plug deep socket with extension on the rear spark plug for removal.  This plug is not visible from above and is located next to the firewall with very little room to manuver a deep socket and extension. Is there a special technique or a spcial tool which will allow me to remove this last plug. I'm an old timer and have worked on many engines and drivetrains but I must admit this problem has me very frustrated.

Thanks in Advance:

Paul R.

Answer
Hi Paul -

Oh yes, I remember this one! You are correct, you do have to kind of guess where the plug is, and at what angle it is at, because it is at a weird angle. You will definitely need a universal 5/8" spark plug socket, a 12" extension, and really would benefit with a flex head ratchet. I also had to stand on a stool to get leverage.

The right tools make all the difference.

Hope this helps -
