Nissan Repair: Nissan 300zx 92 Problem, air fuel ratio, nissan 300zx

Question
QUESTION: Hi. My Nissan 300zx  92 Model was recently rebuilt. It now has a miss that sounds like a plug lead loose but they are not.  On a long drive I have lost accelerator power and then a dash light came on that was red with heat rays coming out of it. (beside battery light)  Temp light was fine but I noted there was no pressure in the radiator hose as if it was boiling etc...Have you any answers as my mechanic doesn't  thanks  Annette

ANSWER: Hi Annette -

First of all, is there any recourse to take the vehicle back to where it was rebuilt? Seems to me it needs some warranty work on the job.

Was the car tuned up? I would check all the spark plugs first to see if there are any that is fouled. Check the distributor cap and rotor for carbon tracking and excess deposits.

Is the car overheating? Perhaps the thermostat is stuck? After the car is running for a while, does the top hose feel hotter than the lower?

Please get back to me with your answers so we can continue -

thanks

QUESTION: Thanks Calvin,  We have looked at the themostat and it looked fine....I recently had a new exhaust fitted and I believe there is some sort of sensors in it that may be faulty ??  Are they hard to get??  Are they costly??  I have an 1992 Import Z32  Thanks  Annette

Answer
Hi Annette -

The sensor you may be talking about is an oxygen sensor. It monitors the exaust mixture and signals to the car's computer air/fuel ratio parameters. That is probably what is illuminating the light on your instrument panel. You may get it at any dealership, I do not think that outside auto parts stores sell it, but you may try. Should not be that costly, under $100, depending on where you go.

Hope this helps -
