Nissan Repair: brake lights, brake light switch, rubber bushing

Question
I have a 1989 Nissan extra cab 6 cylinder 4x4 pickup. All of a sudden the brake lights are staying on as if i am applying pressure to the brakes. They stay on even after the truck is turned off. The only way to get them off is to pull the fuse. What could this be?

Answer
Hi JD -

Look above your brake pedal. Find the brake light switch, and the part of the brake pedal shaft that hits that switch. There should be a rubber bushing there that rests against the switch and turns off the light when the brake is not applied. If that is not there, then purchase one from any auto store (they will know what you are talking about, this is common), and then it just presses in the hole on the shaft.

Hope this helps =
