Nissan Repair: 96 Nissan Maxima Odometer stuck, nissan maxima, cable check

My odometer and trip meter stopped while driving for my job. After a whole day
of not moving, it kicked back on for about 3 miles and then stopped again. What
is going on?

Hi Mike -

The most common cause is the cable, then the gear. To check the gear, remove (unscrew) the cable housing where it meets the transmission. In it there is a plastic gear that turns the cable. Check for teeth missing.

To check the cable, you need to remove it from the instrument panel side. This gets a little cumbersome, but the only way it can be done.
