Question
QUESTION: I have a 99 I30, 55,000 miles.  The car has seems to be misfiring when idiling in gear and at times when I slow down and start going again.  Seems to be fine at cruising speed and when in park or neutral?  Any help would be appreciated!

Answer
John,

The idle air control valve will cause idle issues.  But, I am saying the TPS due to the history with the I30.  The proper way to do this is not to throw parts at the car.  Purchase a Haynes Manual and see the directions on how to check the resistance and adjust the TPS.  If it checks out good then look at the idle air control valve.  These will clog up and that causes issues too.  You can clean the throttle body and idle air control valve and reinstall.  But, most of the time the, once the idle air control valve has been removed it needs to be replaced.  Also, you will need a throttle body gasket set when you disassemble it.
