Nissan Repair: altima seat belt chime beeps etc, nissan dealer, 2008 camry

Question
QUESTION: Is there anyway to enable the seat belt chime to CONTINUE beeping until the seat belt is connected. Currently, the chime ends after 4 beeps and few seconds, even if the seat belt is not connected. In other cars, the beeps are louder and more importantly continue until you connect the seat belt - which is much better, safer and desired for us. I understand this chime function in Altima is controlled by the BCM, and there is a plastic box under dash which is controlled by BCM and no factory solution is available. What other or after market solutions might be possible. And would installing a better chime solution avoid the car's full warranty? THANKS

ANSWER: Hi Steve -

This is a tough one.
I know one answer - any change or unauthorized service to the car will void the warranty, especially when it comes to safety items like a seat belt. Understandably you are trying to make it safer, however the factory sees it as tampering with the original design, which, in their eyes is a risk.

I am surprised your Altima stops beeping after 4 chimes. What is the year of your vehicle. I will do some research -

Thanks
Let me know -

QUESTION: It's a 2008 Altima 2.5 S.  Yes, for me I can barely hear the chime, and it ends so quickly, so it's basically useless as an annoyanous / reminder device. I checked with my Nissan dealer who said they couldn't reprogram the computer - not sure they're correct! Anyway if they are, is there some other way to accomplish getting the chime to beep until the seat belt is buckled? Is there some simple after market seat belt warning system I could hook up and control, so that a beep would occur while you're sitting in the front seat, if the seat belt isn't buckled? Appreciate any help you can come up with. Seems like Nissan isn't too concerned with this safety aspect. I know that the 2008 Camry's (we also have one) have the feature I desire so Toyota is one step ahead of Nissan in this area. Look forward to help/answer. THANKS :)

Answer
Hi Steve -

I see your point. The only thing I can think of is to speak to Toyota and see if they have anything compatible to your Altima, as far as a seat belt warning system. I know it can be done, however, could involve some extensive rewiring.

Sorry I could not be of more help. This is a first for me.
