Nissan Repair: s14 silvia keeps cutting out while driving, nissan 240sx, oil contamination

im driving along and when i get up to about 3500-4000 revs the revs kinda stop or lag and i can have my foot flat and it wont do anything, then itll go normal again, then itl lag again, it doesnt do it all the time but when it does i usually have to park the car up for a couple of hours, any ideas?, its a 1994 nissan 240sx with a sr20de manual

Nice car as I would love to have a Silvia.  Anyway, the dsitributor probably has oil contamination and the optics are getting coated.  This will cause the cutting out.  Another area would be the air meter if the distributor is not contaminated with oil.  But, my first thought is the distributor.
