Nissan Repair: Ignition Removal / replacement 200sx, speed shift, awl

Question
Have 1995 200sx 5 speed shift that runs very nice.  Just one problem, unable to start the car at times.  Must turn the ignition key and hold in the starting position for a second or two.  During this time there is complete silence until something clicks and the car starts.  Unable to see how to remove the ignition so I can replace.

Answer
Hi Kenneth -

On the steering column you have a plastic housing around where the ignition switch is. Remove the screws from the bottom (I think there are about 4 or 5 of them), and the housing sould fall apart. From there you will be able to see the ignition switch and cylinder. The part you need is the ignition switch (the one where all the wires connect to), not the cylinder, as it is 2 separately ordered parts.

Remove the harness and the switch. Sometimes you have to use a sharp pointed awl and hammer to undo the screws, as they have no head. This is a tamper proof thing that they do.

Hope this helps -
