Nissan Repair: Nissan 2004 Quest Anti-Lock Brakes?, star wheel, 2004 nissan quest

Question
How do you change brakes shoes on a 2004 nissan quest?
Anything special to do w/ the anti-lock brakes?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Steven -

I am assuming these are the rear brake shoes, or brake drum lining?

There are slight variations, however I will give you general instructions. It also helps to get some tools especially designed for brake work, such as the spring remover. Work on one side at a time, in case you get lost, you can always refer to the other side for reference. Remember that the right side is a mirror image of the left.

First, remove the springs that hold the lining to the center post. Then remove the spring loaded clips that hold the lining to the backing plate. Press down and turn. Once this is removed, everything will kind of fall apart, so keep note of where things came from. Again, you can refer to the other side if you get lost. Remove the hold down clip, star wheel adjustment and spring, emergency brake cable, and balance bar with spring. Installation is the reverse of removal, clean backing plate and grease areas of contact with the lining. Also turn the star wheel all the way down to the end before installing (reverse thread on the wheel).

As far as ABS, nothing special.

Hope this helps Steven -
