Nissan Repair: Does the 1991 Nissan Pathfinders have a slow accerlation, nissan pathfinders, nissan pathfinder

I currently obtained a 1991 nissan pathfinder and i have noticed that it takes a while to accerlate. i was wondering if is just like that because it is quite old or do i need to get it looked at. i dont know much about it, i got it from my uncle that moved away as my first car and i would like to find out more about. Please be free to help and give advice

Hi Daniel -

It is hard to say without knowing past history about the car, however I will throw some things out at you -

Timing belt - when was it last replaced? Could be it has slipped a notch and car lost power. Check the timing and see.

Clogged exhaust - muffler or catalytic converter

Last tune up - perhaps a simple tune up will do the trick if it has not been done lately

Transmission - if it just seems to rev up without power, check the transmission oil. If it smells burnt and looks brown instead of red, change the oil. If the problem still persists, might need an overhaul.
