Nissan Repair: Removing door panel from 1991 nissan kingcab, nissan king cab, philips head

I am trying to remove the door panel on a 1991 nissan king cab pickup.  I have been unable to figure out how to get the inside door opening mechanism off to get the panel off. It is keeping the panel from coming off.  There is no screw in the cover plate for the opener.  There is however a small rubber plug or something up under the door release.  Can you help me?

Hi Clyde -

You are on the right track. That plug should be removable by carefully prying it off, then it should expose a single philips head screw underneath.

In some models, the entire plastic piece just snaps in the door panel, but in your case, I don't believe so.
