Nissan Repair: 96 nissan 4x4 pedal play, clutch release, end play

Question
I recently had to put in a new transmission. my book calls for 9.29" to 9.69" pedal height with free play of 0.039 to 0.059 inches. Presently, my pedal height is 8 3/4" with a free play of 1 inch. I want things to be right but I don't want to make things worse. Are the book measurements accurate or will the present condition affect my transmission. I need my truck. Thanks for any help you can give.

Answer
Amy,

If the clutch release is good when you have your foot on the pedal you should be fine.  But, the specifications are for proper end play at both dull release and full depress.  This can be adjusted with the slave cylinder adjustment on the clutch release fork.  The big thing is to make sure that when your foot is off the clutch the fork releases and the throw out bearing does not touch/spin and when you have your foot on the clutch, full to the floor, the clutch is not dragging and is fully released.  If you have both of these you are fine.
