Nissan Repair: replacing idler pully 98 nissan altima, nissan altima, nut and bolt

Question
We are wondering if we can replace this part ourselves or if we should have a mechanic do it?  We have the Nissan book. If it is a job we can do is there any special tools required for the job. It shows two idler pulley's in the book we are referring to the one located on the top near the alternator.

Answer
Hi Austin -

Replacement is basic.

there should be a 14MM nut right in the center of the pulley. All you need to do is loosen nut, which will loosen the belt, and remove the nut and bolt that is holding the pulley in place. Be careful to watch for the spacer and replace it the same way as it came off. Very important.

Once the idler is off, then you can replace it with the new one, reverse of how it was taken off. Spin the idler by hand to ensure that it was assembled correctly.

That's it -
Go get em
