Nissan Repair: 1999 Nissan Maxima wont start, crank sensor, nissan maxima

Question
Hi,

My 1999 Nissan Maxima wont start. It cranks when i try to start but the engine wont fire.
While trying this out few times, my battery died, so i tried with Jumpstart.

WHen i took it to Pepboys, after 1 whole day they told me, the crank sensor has some probelm and needs to be replaced. meanwhilte they checked the power at spart points, fuel pressure etc and things looks fine.
nnow even after doing it, they cannot get it start.
now the pepboys experts says, the car computer might hav blown out due to repeated jump start attemp.
Can this happen ??

Thanks,
Sachin

Answer
Sachin,

There are issues with crank angle sensors that have problems and these need replacement.  This is probably what happened to yours.  And, yes, the jump starting could have blown the computer.  If it were me I would try not to throw parts at the vehicle and ask that the shop scan the vehicle to make sure that the computer is not blown.  Nissan uses a consult II scantool and that is what I would ask to be used to diagnose the car.
