Nissan Repair: Nissan Micra (k12) rain sensing wipers, nissan micra, rear view mirror

Question
Do you know how to disable the rain sensor on a K12 Nissan Micra? Sometimes I'm driving along on a nice sunny day and the wipers will start and i cant turn them off. I'm assuming the fault is with the sensor unless you have any other ideas. Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Iftekhar -

The rain sensor is usually located on the stem of your rear view mirror where it attaches to the window and faces the front of the car. It works by sensing water on the windshield. However, it will also activate the wipers when there is dust or dirt on the area where it senses. First of all, make sure that your windshield is clean around this sensor. A common issue is a water spot right where the sensor is, and that will create those "sunny day" rain, depending on how the sun is reflecting on the stain.

If that does not work, you can usually deactivate the auto-sensor by turning the wiper switch off. There should be a setting on the switch where you can move it to a "off" or "O" position.

My Mercedes does exactly the same thing. I am driving along and those darn wipers turn on. Fellow drivers must think I am not all there!

Anyway, hope this helps, and you did not say what year your vehicle is, but if all else fails, is it still under warranty?

Have a great day -
