Nissan Repair: dashboard lights wont work, resistor type, nissan sentra

Question
My 1995 Nissan Sentra dashboard idiot lights will not work. Checked the fuses and bulbs and both are good.I'm thinking that a resistor is bad on the dashboards computer board. There was no continuity between resistor and the other side. Is it possible to fix if that is the problem?

Answer
Amy,

First, check the connector to see if there is power coming from the sensors.  You have a oil pressure sensor, a brake switch/sensor and an alternator/battery light.  All of these run through the ignition switch to show you they are functional when you are in the start mode.  If they light on ignition then they should be fine.  If not, it is time to backprobe the harness.  You could have a defective ground or the step transformer could be defective as you describe.  If you can figure out the resistor type you could get one from Radio Shack.  But, for the money a wrecking yard cluster is a cheaper option at around $50 bucks.
