Nissan Repair: Nissan Qwest - 1996 - cant start, necessary tests, gas tank

Question
It's 94,000 miles and I just installed the battery 3 month ago and it was running fine.   3 days, it was very cold, I have to start the engine couple of times to make it run. After that, it's fine until today.  In afternoon, i could drive it for lunch, but it didn't work when I'm going home.

I tried to do cable jump, it didn't work either.  I called the auto shop close to my work.  They towed it to their shop and they said it didn't pump gas, so they estimate to replace the gas pump and labor for $400.00.  Is it gas pump and reasonable price?????

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Mike -

The price quoted is about right, although I think it is  a bit high. But, if you tow it to another place, it will cost you more anyway.

Provided they did the necessary tests to condemn the fuel pump, i say go with it. The cost is high because the gas tank will have to be removed to access the pump.

Also, might want to replace the fuel filter at the same time. There is a slight chance that the fuel filter is clogged if you have not cahnged it yet, being that you have all that mileage. Might be prudent to ask them to replace the filter first and see if that works. Make sure the repair shop is reputable.

Hope this helps
