Nissan Repair: 2001 Sentra gasoline odor, gasoline leak, nissan sentra

Question
Hi. Have begun to notice a gasoline odor coming from my vents. This occurs when the car is running and, I am sitting idle with my heater fan turned on. This happens even when I am the only car stopped at the light. The odor goes away if I turn off the heater fan or when I am moving. I have looked under the hood and cannot see or smell any gasoline leak or odor.
My car is a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE. Thank you.

Answer
Rob,

There is probably a loose hose or connector to a fuel line or even a rotten hose that is allowing vapor to get to the air intake for the vent.  Try recirculate mode until you find the offending hose.  I amn surprised that the check engine light has not come on since loosing pressure in a closed fuel system should set the check engine light for a non-pressurized system.  I would follow the hoses from the front to the back to tighten each clamp and make sure hoses are not seeping gasoline.  Remember, we are only talking about a small leak that will make the car smell like gas.
